Man Dies After Wreck With 2 Semis Near Arsenal Road In Channahon Township: Coroner Laurie Summers Reveals

Tuesday's fatality happened early in the morning. The man who died was 32 years old.

CHANNAHON, IL — Will County Coroner Laurie Summers has announced that Tuesday's morning wreck along the south frontage road near Interstate 55 and Arsenal Road in Channahon Township claimed the life of 32-year-old motorist Michael Ortiz Gomez, who came from Westmont.

Gomez was pronounced dead at 7:05 a.m. at St. Joe's hospital, the coroner's office noted. The fatality happened on the frontage road near the Exxon Mobil refinery, according to the coroner. She said that the Illinois State Police are now investigating the crash and that an autopsy set for later in the day on Wednesday will determine the cause and manner of the Westmont man's death.

According to the Illinois State Police, at 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday, ISP Troop 3 responded to the frontage road to Arsenal Road at I-55 for a three-unit crash involving two truck tractor semi-trailers and a passenger vehicle. Three people were taken to area hospitals where one was later pronounced deceased.

The southbound lanes of the Frontage Road were shut down and reopened at 11 a.m. No further information is available, ISP noted.
