Minooka High School District Approves Plan to Cut Costs

No jobs cut in plan approved Thursday, but the athletic trainer will return on a part-time basis.

The Minooka Community High School District 111 board approved a financial plan aimed at cutting expenses and increasing revenue last week.

The board approved a proposal that does not cut any teacher or staff positions, but a full-time staff member will not replace athletic trainer Bob Flynn when he retires this month, according to the Herald-news. Instead, Flynn will return as a part-time trainer, and the district will use outside business ATI Physical Therapy to work with student athletes.

According to the Herald-News, the change will save the district $40,000 per year.

Other measures include raising student registration fees by $10 and parking fees by $5, as well as the creation of a student activity and athletic fee of $30. That fee remains the same whether a student participates in no activities or sports, or if they take part in several.

Overall, the plan is expected to save the district more than $540,000 next year, with more than $330,000 in cost reductions and an additional $208,000 in revenue.
