Minooka High School plays host to the fourth annual Indian Pride Summer Track and Field Series, starting Tuesday at 301 S. Wabena Ave.
The meets begin at 5:30 p.m., are for all ages and are open to the public.
“These events are something the whole family can enjoy,” said Minooka assistant girls track and field coach Matt Thomas. “From toddlers to adults, there is something for everyone. This is a great way to get out of the house, be active and meet other families in the community who enjoy an active lifestyle.”

The other two meets in the series are June 28 and July 12.
Free clinics explaining how to run each event will start at 5:30 p.m. Registration runs 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The field and running events begin at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per event.

Events include the shot put, long jump, high jump, 55- and 100-meter sprints, 1,600 meters, 100 low hurdles, family 4 x 100 relay, 55 mini hurdles and the popular toddler 20-meter run.
“The original intent behind hosting these meets was to give young kids a chance to experience this sport,” said Minooka cross country coach Kevin Gummerson. “It’s also designed to give people who have done this sport before [a chance] to get back out there, lace up the shoes and go for a run, participate in the shot put or see what their current leaping ability is.”
Awards are presented to the top six finishers in each event.
The July 12 meet will feature a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) run on the track. The cost is $5.
“Each year this meet is growing in popularity,” Gummerson said. “We have more people asking about it and more people competing. We’ve had around 100 participants at each meet the last few years.
"We are confident that the numbers will grow as people realize how much fun it is to watch people compete on the track.”
