Minooka's Furr Named All-State in Girls Basketball

Hogen advances to state finals in 3-point shooting.

Now that her storied career is over, Minooka High School's Stephanie Furr is starting to rake in personal accolades.

Furr, a 5-foot-10-inch senior guard/forward, was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State, fourth team.

The school’s second all-time leading scorer (1,372) averaged 18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Danville Regional champion Indians (23-5). The Southwest Prairie Conference’s Most Valuable Player will attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the fall.

“I have never had a player make such a positive impact on a team as Stephanie did in her three years as a varsity starter,” Minooka coach Ray Liberatore said. “She is as humble as when she got called up to the varsity at the end of her freshman year. Most of the time Steph lead by example, and her legacy is going to be the success we had as a team with her as our leader.”

Minooka’s Jake Hogen will compete in the Class 4A Country Financial Three-Point Showdown as part of the state tournament festivities at 5 p.m. Thursday at Carver Arena in Peoria.

Hogen, a sophomore guard, won the Aurora East sectional title by sinking 10 of 15 from beyond the arc. He is one of 32 competitors who will compete for four spots in Friday’s championship, which is slated for about 8 p.m.

The top two scorers will face off at 1:45 p.m. Saturday to see who is King of the Hill.

Hogen finished second on the team and third in the SPC with 56 three-pointers. He shot 38.1 percent (56 of 147) from beyond the arc during the season.

He hit 10 of 15 in the regional final round to advance to the Moline sectional. Hogen was the final qualifier, making 7 of 15, in the sectional semifinal round at East Aurora.
