Amelia Lopez Guzman, age 86 of Morris passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Mercedes, TX, on May 28, 1938, to the late Ascension and Senovia (nee Gonzalez) Lopez.
Amelia was a homemaker. She met her husband Raul in 1952 where they began their life as a married couple in Plainview, Texas, and spent 66 happy years together before his passing in 2018. Together they raised 7 children; Lionel Guzman, Arthur Guzman, Elida Chess, Martin ( Mary Beth) Guzman, Matthew (Andrea) Guzman, Rita Guzman, Lisa (Don) Brown. Raul and Amelia moved from Texas to Chicago Heights, Joliet, and Channahon, where they raised their family before finally retiring to a farm they purchased in Xenia, IL.

Amelia adored spending time with the family, which includes numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, feeding them tamales, tortillas, beans and rice, and empanadas. She loved to garden, especially tending to her flowers as she lavished the warmth of the sun outdoors. She was especially fond of car rides in the country. She enjoyed watching “I Love Lucy”, “Andy Griffith” reruns, and old westerns. Amelia was an avid Cubs fan and you would often find her yelling at the TV.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raul Guzman; her parents; siblings, Bernardo Lopez, Augustine Lopez, Erineo Lopez, Joseph Lopez, Ascension Lopez, Jr., and Elena Vasquez; and grandchildren Matthew Aaron Guzman and Angelina Guzman.
Visitation for Amelia Lopez Guzman will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd Joliet, IL. Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet, IL.
