Person Ejected, 150 Gallons Of Diesel Leak On Neighbor's Yard In Chaotic Will County Crash

WILL COUNTY, IL — A chaotic crash involving a car, a box truck and a tanker left one person ejected, five injured and roughly 150 gallons of diesel fuel leaking into the yard of a home in rural Will County near Braidwood, according to authorities.

Emergency personnel responded around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to the scene at Route 113 and West River Road for reports of a person ejected from a vehicle, authorities said.

Crews arrived to find a box truck in a ditch with a car wedged beneath its rear, a tanker in the front yard of a home and a person on the ground, according to the Braidwood Fire Protection District.

Five people were taken to area hospitals, while a sixth, the tanker driver, refused treatment, authorities said, adding none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The tanker was carrying a soybean product, but the collision ruptured the vehicle's diesel fuel tanks, leaking an estimated 150 gallons of the fuel into the home’s front yard, according to the fire district. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and a contract hazmat company were notified to oversee cleanup and mitigation efforts, authorities said. Illinois State Police were investigating the crash.

Both roads were closed during the response, as was previously reported by Patch.
