Polish, European Restaurant In Channahon Calls It Quits Months After Trying Carryout Only Format

CHANNAHON, IL — A Channahon family who came to the area from Poland has abandoned their dream of operating one of the Joliet region's only Polish and European-style restaurants after being open for business almost five and a half years.

In 2021, Joliet Patch reported that Polish immigrants Paul and Maggie Adamuzyk have been renovating the former animal hospital building in Channahon. They opened Delight Wish on April 24, 2021.

Their restaurant was easy to find. It's between the Dollar General store and the now-shuttered River Hawk Brewery about a mile up the road from the Interstate 55 exit for Channahon at Route 6.

While Delight Wish had outstanding authentic food, the small family-run business struggled to market their restaurant; the restaurant never became widely known in the Chicago region despite the fact that people are often suggesting that we need more Polish restaurants in the Chicago area.

"We regret to inform you that after much consideration, DW Diner Express & Liquor Store will be closing its doors permanently on 8.9.26," Delight Wish just announced on Facebook. "This decision was not made lightly, and we are incredibly grateful for your support and loyalty over the years. We encourage you to order one last time to enjoy your favorite meals and drinks before our final day of operation. Gift Cards can be redeemed till 8.9.26.

"Thank you for being a part of our community. We'll be waiting to see you one last time at Three Rivers Festival in Channahon."

Prior to last weekend's announcement of its upcoming closure, Delight Wish made a dramatic change that might have signaled that business was not looking good heading into this year. Delight Wish announced that in 2026, it was closing down the indoor dining room and transitioning into a buffet-style carryout-only restaurant that would be called Delight Wish Diner Express & Liquor Store.

The new concept never caught on.

In 2021, Joliet Patch reported that the main dishes would feature: schnitzel, pork chops, chicken breast, beef steak, whole fish, breaded fish fillet, pierogi, blintzes, noodle pasta and stuffed cabbage. Polish sausage and sandwiches will be available for lunch.

There were nine sides on the menu and these include: bigos, dumplings, potato pancakes and cooked potato. The menu included five desserts.

As for the owner, Paul Adamuzyk is a Polish immigrant who came to the Chicago area in 2003. He and his family now live in the Channahon area.
