Hi y’all. My name is Ruby, I don’t remember much about my mom and littermates but somehow I ended up on my own. Animal Control picked me up and took me to a small rural shelter in south central Kentucky. It was crowded and LOUD and I was scared that something really bad was going to happen to me. They put me in a small pen with a hound named Huey and we became best buds. People came and went but no one ever picked Huey or me – I guess we were too quiet and too plain for them. A nice lady came and visited often, and she always patted us and said she was trying real hard to get us out and we just needed to hang in there. One Saturday she came and said we only had to wait a few more days – that we were going to the vet on Tuesday and then we would be going on a big adventure after that. We went to her farm after visiting the vet. Huey and I were kenneled together there until he left on his big adventure to Minnesota; I was sad to see him go but Miss Terri said that I would have my turn soon.
Because I was so hungry I sometimes eat too fast and I sometimes guard my food, therefore I eat in my crate. My foster mom keeps saying that I will never go hungry again. I get to play with other dogs and I’m getting the hang of leash training. I am shy at first but warm up quickly, and Miss Terri says I’m a good pup with the nicest smile and expressive eyes. Life hasn’t been easy for me so far but I’ve met new people and they’ve shown me what it feels like to be loved. I like it here because Miss Terri is good to me, but I’m dreaming of a home and a family of my very own. Miss Terri says that I have to have a foster home in a place called Illinois before the next part of my adventure can begin.
I would appreciate it if y’all would share my story and see if one of your friends could be my foster mom or dad for a while until Safe Haven can find me a real mom and dad who will love me forever.

While you foster, Safe Haven Dog Rescue pays all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something she has been missing!) and a safe place for her until she finds her forever home.
Please email safehavendogs@yahoo.com for a foster application or additional details.
Ruby is also available for our Foster to Adopt program. This program allows you to be the family that greets her when she arrives in Illinois. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you!
