The Troy 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team won the 7-4A Regional Championship, defeating Hufford Junior High School 47-43 in overtime.

The coach is Tyler Barker, with Clint Reames as assistant coach.

According to Barker, the team was led by Robert Douglas at center with 14 points; Jeremy Anderson at center with eight points; and Keegan Schwarting and Trooper Price each had four points in regulation. Elijah Wilson at point guard came in with 13 points, knocking down two clutch free throws at the end of regulation; and Koen Lynes contributed four crucial overtime points.

“I am very proud of how hard this team fought throughout the year,” Barker said. “They all missed their 6th grade season due to COVID, which is a very crucial year for youth basketball development, whereas most of our opponents had a 6th grade season. Only two kids of the 13 had played organized basketball before, so to win the Regional Championship was a huge accomplishment for them. We fought hard in the Sectional Championship but lost in a close one 41-36, coming down to the final few possessions. Overall I would say this was a very successful year for this group.”
