Goetz said each year, students from Illinois submit recorded auditions for the competition, and only the top musicians are selected.

“We had several students take on the extra challenge of auditioning for the group this year,” he said, “and they all did really well. Just putting together an audition takes planning, problem solving, perseverance and dedication. I'm really happy for Noah and Niko for being selected, and I'm very excited for them to be able to participate in this event. It really is top notch, and they are going to have a great experience.”

The All-Illinois Junior Band was founded to create a premier musical experience for the state’s finest middle school band students. Its goals are to provide an opportunity for the students to perform musical literature with a mature ensemble and distinguished conductor and to inspire them to continue their musical studies.

The students in the All-Illinois Junior Band will perform together on January 14 and 15, 2022, at the University of Illinois Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The guest conductor will be Barry L. Houser, Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Music and Director of the Marching Illini at the University of Illinois.
