Troy Middle School Symphonic Band participates in SuperState
Only ten middle school bands in Illinois received the honor
The Troy Middle School Symphonic Band recently performed at the Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana. Hosted by the University of Illinois Bands, the festival took place in May.
“Only ten middle school bands were invited to participate,” said Troy Middle School and William B. Orenic Intermediate School band director William Goetz, “and Jen Carlton (also a Troy band director) and I are very proud of our kids for this achievement. We are very happy to be on this list along with the best bands in the state.”
Illinois middle school and high school bands applied to participate in SuperState by submitting a recording earlier in the year in a competitive application, Goetz explained.
Members of the band are flute players William Buchanan, Olivia Diaz, Cara Konieczny, Gabriela Popova and Claire Wellman; oboe player Michayla Rhymes; bassoon player Niko Martinez; clarinet players Natasha Barowsky, Malorie Berry, Mason Bross, Avery Cooper, Abigail Fagan, Layla McKinney, Caylinn Mitchell, Caitlyn Podell, Samuel Racutt, Kelsey Sandin, Colbie Siksta and Leah Warren.
Alto saxophone players are Khristian Lestz and Hector Lopez; tenor saxophone player is Emma Roberts; trumpet players are Sana Ahmad, Violet Freeman, Maddex Gourley, Gavin Rodriguez, Lucas Terrazas, Madeline Woods and Zeb Zamoras; horn players are Leah Blunk and Noah Tarver; trombone players are Holli Coughlen, Hannah Monday, Angelo Noriega, Bailey Williams and Dylan Ziegler; baritone players are Laurynn Faulkner and Alexis Waszczyk; and tuba players are Devion Campbell and Ethan Steg.
Percussionists are Mia Eggman, Joseph Ferreti-Raucci, Dominic Larkin, Sofia Mancilla, Caleb Price and Dylan Trainor.
Goetz said he is proud of the skill and achievements of the students in the Troy Symphonic Band, which are the results of years of work. They began in fifth grade band, he said, then worked hard in sixth grade band and in the Troy Middle School Band.
“And because of these years of hard work,” Goetz said, “they've accomplished this stellar achievement.”
The Troy Symphonic Band this spring also performed at the Prairie State Middle School Concert Band Festival at Wentz Hall on the campus of North Central College in Naperville, and the Symphonic Band together with the Troy Concert Band participated in the IGSMA State Festival at Lockport High School.
Troy Middle School and William B. Orenic Intermediate School are Troy Community School District 30-C schools.
