Worker Trapped Inside 130-Foot Gas Station Sign For Hours: Reports

WILMINGTON, IL — A worker was rescued Tuesday after being stranded inside a gas station sign in Wilmington for hours, according to reports.

The Wilmington Fire Department said in a social media post around 3 p.m. that it was working on a high-angle rescue in the area of Lorenzo and Southwest Frontage roads. The agency asked people to avoid the area and cautioned that Southwest Frontage Road was closed.

The worker was doing maintenance around 11 a.m. on the roughly 130-foot sign when the lift had a problem, WLS reported, adding he was returned to the ground by a crane just before 4 p.m.
