The two people killed have not been identified. Brown told reporters that in addition to the person in custody, police were also detailing another person for obstructing officers from making an arrest. Brown also said that police believe that a third person handed the shooter the gun, but that person has not yet been identified.
Brown said that he and police officials are “confident our officers captured the shooter and recovered the weapon and that police officials are working with prosecutors to charge the person they believe fired the gun.

The Chicago Tribune reported that paramedics took five gunshot victims and one person with burn injuries to local hospitals. Witnesses told the Tribune that people getting off the Red Line train at Chicago and State saw a large group of teens fighting. Later, witnesses in the area heard gunfire, the Tribune reported.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot promised to put more police officers in the area where Thursday night’s shooting took place and said officers may be assigned there permanently.
“Area residents, commuters, and others simply must have the peace of mind that this highly trafficked area is safe, and it is time for more specific, concrete steps to be taken to address this area once and for all,” Lightfoot said in the statement.
Lightfoot recently instituted a ban on unaccompanied teens near The Bean sculpture and an earlier curfew for minors following the fatal shooting of a teenager last weekend.
