-20 Wind Chills, Then Weekend Break From Bitter Cold: IL Weather

Wind chills of -20 are expected early Friday in some areas.

ILLINOIS — Cold temperatures will close out the work week, with wind chills between -5 and -20 degrees expected into early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday night's low will be -8degrees, and wind chills of -10 to -15 are expected for the Joliet and Elgin areas, while wind chills of -5 to -10 are expected closer to Chicago, according to the weather service.

"Tonight will be bone-chilly cold with minimum wind chills ranging from 10 to 20 degrees below zero," the weather service said. "Actual air temperatures will range from +3 to -8."

Friday will still be cold, with a high of 19 degrees, the weather service said. The low for Friday night will be -1.

Temperatures will warm on Saturday, when a high of 34 degrees is expected, and Sunday, which will see a high of 33, according to the weather service. However, temperatures will plummet again by Sunday night to a low of -3 degrees.

Freezing rain is also possible Saturday, and the weather service said there is a limited ice accumulation risk. There is also a limited excessive cold risk for Sunday through Tuesday.
