21-Year-Old Marine Dead After Pulled From Lake Michigan; Family Raising Money For Funeral
Melvin Guzman was known as a hard-working and disciplined person, according to a GoFundMe started by his family.
CHICAGO — The family of a 21-year-old Marine whose body was pulled from Lake Michigan last week is raising money to pay for his funeral.
Melvin Guzman, of Chicago, was recovered by Chicago Fire Department divers around 9 p.m. Friday at North Avenue Beach in the 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, authorities said.
A beloved son and brother, Guzman was known as a hard-working and disciplined person, according to a GoFundMe started by his family.

“He will be missed by many and our family gratefully appreciates everyone's support,” the GoFundMe said.
As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraiser had received roughly $5,000 in donations toward its $8,000 goal.
