- "Fast Eddie" was released from federal prison more than a year early. The former alderman and two-time felon Edward Vrdolyak, 84, was convicted on a tax evasion charge and sentenced to 18 months in prison. After just five months, he was moved to a halfway house in Downers Grove. (Patch)
- The Whole Foods Market that former Mayor Rahm Emanuel lured to an Englewood strip mall built with $10 million in taxpayer cash is closing after just six years. Meanwhile, Whole Foods opened a giant store in the Gold Coast this week. (Patch)
- Twenty-three gunshots rang out near a St. Rita High School baseball game and track meet on the Southwest Side. "I've never experienced violent gunfire. The boys on the field hit the ground," a baseball player's parent told reporter Megan Hickey. (CBS2)
- A three-year-old girl died after being trapped in a Bronzeville apartment fire early Saturday. Firefighters rescued the girl from the second floor in the 600 block of East 43rd Street around 2 a.m. but later died from burns and smoke inhalation. (WGN9)
- Chicago sommelier Jelena Prodan's nomination for the prestigious Jean Banchet Awards has been rescinded over racial profiling allegations. Prodan was involved in an incident with a racially diverse group of diners who say staff exhibited "racist and homophobic behavior toward them, questioning whether they could afford a $56-per-pour Scotch."
