3 Dead, 1 Severely Injured After Shooting Near Bar In Portage Park: Police

Each of the people who were killed was shot multiple times, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A shooting early Sunday in Portage Park left three people dead and one critically injured, according to police.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of West School Street, police said. The victims were standing in the street with a group of people when a man opened fire and fled in an SUV, according to police.

The incident followed a fight at a nearby bar, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, which identified the dead as Ricky Vera, 50; Mario Pozuelos, 26; and Mercedes Tavares, 24. Each of the people who were killed was shot multiple times, police said.

The fourth victim, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head and listed in critical condition, according to police.

No one was immediately in custody and detectives were investigating, police said.
