500-Plus Flights Canceled In Chicago Area Due To Severe Weather
Heavy rain caused hundreds of flight cancellations and delays in Chicago on Memorial Day.

CHICAGO, IL — Severe weather in the Chicago area is taking a toll on airline travel. Hundreds of flights were canceled on Memorial Day due to storms.
The cancellations came as the region was on alert for tornadoes and flooding on Monday, May 27.
More than 500 flights out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport were canceled because of heavy rain, according to O'Hare officials.

Flight delays were averaging about 90 minutes, authorities from O'Hare reported around 6 p.m.
Almost 70 flights were canceled Monday at Midway International Airport, where officials reported at approximately 6 p.m. that delays were around 20 minutes.

Travelers should check with their airlines.
Radar and automated gauges indicated 1 to 1.5 inches of rain had fallen in parts of Will and Cook counties by 5:35 p.m. on Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which reported 0.25 to 0.5 inch of additional precipitation was possible before 7:15 p.m.
Multiple tornadoes are believed to have touched down Monday in Illinois, where a tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for several counties.
