8 Chicago Pizzerias Among Nation’s Best
But none were in the top 20 — and that's just wrong! New rankings by The Daily Meal list the top 101 pizza joints in the United States.

The great pizza debate has always come down to Chicago and New York, and a national food-centric publication has determined the contest isn’t even close.
The not being close part is true, but The Daily Meal couldn’t be more wrong in determining which city has the best pizzas in America. Its "101 Best Pizzas in America" list puts four of the top five in the nation all in New York City.
What’s worse — the list completely omitted Chicago from the top 20. Eight Chicago-based pizzerias are included in the entire list released last week.

The list was New York heavy, even though New York pizzas don't stack up to Chicago-style deep dish, with some love given to Pennsylvania pies as well. Five Philadelphia shops made the top 101 even though that city is clearly a cheesesteak city.
The highest-ranked Chicago pizza shop was Peaquod’s Pizza, located at 2207 N. Clybourn Ave. in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and with a location in north suburban Morton Grove.

The deep dish at Peaquod’s and a good chunk of other pizza lover meccas in Chicago is impressive, but according to the list it has nothing on skimpy-sauced, bread-filled giants that will make you wonder why you didn’t just stop to see one of the many hot dog vendors in Midtown Manhattan.
The eight Chicago shops listed by The Daily Meal include:
67. Lou Malnati’s, several Chicago locations. (Chicago Classic: deep dish with sausage, crust made with butter, mozzarella).
55. Vito & Nick’s, 8433 S. Pulaski (sausage)
54. Pizano’s, several Chicago locations. (Rudy’s Special: mozzarella, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper)
43. Giordano’s, several Chicago locations. (Classic Deep Dish: mushrooms, green peppers, onions).
34. Piece, 1927 W. North (Pepperoni and banana peppers)
33. Gino’s East, several Chicago locations. (Cheese Deep Dish)
28. Coalfire Pizza, 1321 W. Grand/3707 N. Southport (Margherita)
24. Peaquod’s, 2207 N. Clybourn (deep-dish sausage and pepperoni)
Di Fara in Brooklyn "earned" the No. 1 spot. Extra points must have been given for East Coast pizzas.
