ROCKFORD, IL — Michael David McKee, the Chicago man accused of killing his ex-wife and her current husband at their Ohio home, is scheduled to appear in Winnebago County court Monday. The 39-year-old will likely be extradited to Ohio, according to court records.

McKee was arrested Saturday and booked into the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford on two counts of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and Spencer Tepe, 37, who were found dead in Columbus's Weinland Park neighborhood on Dec. 30, according to court documents. The couple's two young children, both under the age of 5, were found physically unharmed inside the home.

Here are 8 things we've learned about McKee since his arrest:

  • Court documents filed on Saturday show that McKee lives in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood in an upscale condominium complex that describes itself as a "comfortable stroll from the beach, with walking and biking paths along Lake Michigan."
  • McKee has active medical licenses in both Illinois and California, and is a vascular surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, reports NBC News and its Chicago affiliate. According to the media outlet, he had previously been listed in the hospital's staff directory, but his online entry had been removed as of Sunday. In a statement to NBC Chicago, OSF said it is "cooperating with authorities," about the case, and is directing further questions to law enforcement.
  • McKee and Monique Tepe were married for about two years before they were divorced in 2017, NBC News reported. The pair had no children together.
  • Detectives from the Columbus Division of Police were able to identify McKee as a suspect through neighborhood video surveillance. He was tracked to a vehicle which had arrived just prior to the homicides and left shortly after. Police were able to identify the vehicle further and linked it to McKee, later finding it in Rockford. They also discovered evidence that he was in possession of the vehicle before and after the homicides.
  • The murders of the Tepes occurred between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Dec. 30, in the upstairs of their residence, according to police. Recovered video footage shows a suspect, later identified as McKee, walking in the alley near the family's residence during that timeframe.
  • According to The Columbus Dispatch, McKee went to medical school at Ohio State University and has family in the Zanesville area, which is about 55 miles east of Columbus.
  • "He did not seem like somebody that would do something like this," Gera-Lind Kolarik, a neighbor of McKee, told ABC7. "You never know. You meet people everywhere, and you don't know if they're a serial killer."
  • Prior to services for the slain couple on Sunday, an anonymous family member of the Tepes told the Daily Mail they suspected McKee was responsible for their deaths. "It was absolutely not a shock to anybody, we had all expected it, but we weren't saying that, because we didn't want to compromise the investigation," the outlet reported.
