80-Year-Old Man Shoots Intruder: Chicago Police
The elderly man and the intruder he shot were both in critical condition Monday, according to police.
CHICAGO, IL — An 80-year-old man and a residential intruder are both in critical condition after the senior shot the offender at a home in far northwest Chicago, according to police.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Monday in the 8500 block of West Catherine Avenue in the O’Hare neighborhood, just a few blocks from Chicago’s border with several northwest suburbs, according to police.
The man was in the residence when two people, a male and a female, came to the door, police said. He opened the door and the offenders entered without permission, prompting a physical altercation that resulted in the elderly man, who is a FOID card holder, shooting the male intruder in the chest, according to police.

The offenders fled and went to Ascension Resurrection hospital, where the male was in critical condition, police said, adding both intruders were in custody with charges pending. The elderly man suffered several injuries and was taken to Resurrection in critical condition as well, according to police.
