Advocate Health Care Launches New Advocate Trauma Recovery Center

The center is intended to help address intentional violence in Cook County

Today, Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and Advocate Health Care leadership, community leaders and elected officials including U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, State Senators Kwame Raoul and Bull Cunningham and State Representatives Kelly Burke, Fran Hurley and Justin Slaughter gathered for a program and ribbon-cutting to officially launch the Advocate Trauma Recovery Center. It is one of only two trauma recovery centers in the state of Illinois and the only Center in the Chicago area to provide their unique services for inpatients and outpatients.

The Advocate Trauma Recovery Center was developed in partnership with Advocate Health Care and Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and funded by the Victims of Crime Act. The Center is a health-care based violence intervention program that provides services and resources to survivors of intentional trauma with compassion, respect, and care. The center serves survivors of domestic violence, hate crimes, sexual assault and physical assault, including those injured by assaults with weapons. Its purpose is to aid individuals who have experienced trauma in rebuilding, restoring, and strengthening their sense of safety by ending the cycle of violence through providing access to trauma-informed care.

“The Advocate Trauma Recovery Center will aid individuals who have experienced trauma by offering trauma informed care including extensive case management services and therapy to help them begin their healing process,” says Dr. Kim Miiller, Director of the Advocate Trauma Recovery Center. “The center seeks to provide compassionate and expert care to survivors of intentional trauma in order to support their unique needs and to foster hope for a better future.”
