5 Officers Injured When Teen Driver Plows Into Chicago Police: Authorities

The wrong-way driver struck the officers, a police vehicle, a pole and a fence, authorities said.

CHICAGO — Five officers were injured when a wrong-way driver plowed into them and struck a Chicago police vehicle early Sunday morning on the city’s near west side, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street, according to police. Officers were dispersing a large gathering on foot when they were hit by a sedan going west in the eastbound lane, police said.

The car then drove over the curb and came to a stop after striking the police vehicle, a pole and a fence, according to authorities.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was not hurt and was placed into custody with charges pending, police said, adding a weapon was recovered from the car.

The officers were taken to hospitals, with each in fair condition, according to police.
