Toddler, 4 Others Hurt When 96-Year-Old Driver Crashes Into Chipotle: Cops

CHICAGO, IL — A 96-year-old man was hospitalized after crashing his vehicle into a Chicago Chipotle restaurant Saturday, sending five other people, including a toddler, to area hospitals, police said.

According to Chicago police, the crash happened just before 2 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Pulaski Road when the 96-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency that prevented him from stopping his 2007 Hyundai Sonata.

He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital for observation in good condition, police said.

Inside the Chipotle, police say five people suffered minor injuries:

• A 35-year-old man was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
• A 50-year-old man said he would self-transport to a local hospital.
• Another man said he would self-transport to a local hospital.
• A 29-year-old man and a 2-year-old boy were both transported to Stroger Hospital for observation in good condition.

The crash also caused structural damage to the restaurant, according to police.

As of late Saturday night, no citations had been issued in the crash.
