Designed by renowned Chicago architect Martin Roche, the 16-story Romanesque-inspired Monroe Building has contributed to the city's distinctive skyline since 1912. Roche, who was also known for designing the University Club of Chicago, created the Monroe Building to complement its neighbor with a multitone terra-cotta and granite facade, Spanish-tile gabled roof, and distinctive dormers.
Between 2006 and 2012, the building underwent a comprehensive, and historically sensitive restoration that revived its original architectural details while transforming the interiors into modern workspaces with sweeping views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. Featured by the Chicago Architecture Center, the Monroe Building also a 2021 Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star Certified property.
