COOK COUNTY, IL — The Cook County Sheriff's Office is mourning the sudden death of K-9 Chester, the agency announced Monday.
K-9 Chester was six years old and died on Friday due to a medical emergency, according to the sheriff's office. He had worked with K-9 Specialist Eriaka Phillips for the past five years, primarily in contraband prevention for the Cook County Department of Corrections.
"We are grateful for Chester's years of faithful service and the difference he made in our department," the sheriff's office said in a social media post.
"Rest easy, Chester. Your watch is over. Your service will never be forgotten!"
