CHICAGO, IL — A University of Illinois Chicago student was arrested Wednesday after an attempted stabbing inside Student Center East, a hub for activity on campus, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
UIC spokesperson Brian Flood told the Tribune that UIC Police were investigating an attempted stabbing Wednesday afternoon on the second floor of Student Center East. According to Flood, two UIC students were involved, with one student taken into custody. The other student was not injured.
At about 12:40 p.m., the university issued an initial public alert saying there was police activity at Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted St., and that the building had been evacuated. The public was told to avoid the area until further notice.
The student center remained closed following the arrest, so police could investigate the incident further.
