Barbecue Grill Sparked Roof Fire In Chicago: Report

Videos on social media of the fire on a building at West Belmont and North Sheffield showed flames shooting up several feet in the air.

CHICAGO, IL — A barbecue grill sparked a fire on the roof of a residential building at West Belmont and North Sheffield avenues on Friday night, according to a report.

The fire started about 9 p.m., WGN reported. The grill was next to a propane tank, the report said, quoting a Chicago Fire Department official.

There was no immediate word on whether there were any injuries.

Videos posted to Twitter by residents in the area showed a large plume of smoke and a large fire initially, but it was brought under control fairly quickly, according to Twitter user DPilsk.

There were at least five fire trucks that responded, according to tweets from Simon Kaufman.
