Best Public High Schools in Chicago Selected by Chicago Magazine

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago Magazine rated the best public high schools in Chicago this week. It’s the first time the publication has compiled this type of list since 2012.

Here’s the top five:

1. Walter Payton College Preparatory High School (Near North Side)
2. Northside College Preparatory High School (North Park)
3. Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (Near West Side)
4. William Jones College Preparatory High School (The Loop)
5. Albert G. Lane Technical High School (North Center)

The Magazine used a set of data from Chicago Public Schools and the Illinois State Board of Education to compile the list. Weighted categories included spending per pupil, PARCC attainment, NWEA/MAP growth in reading and math, graduation rate and attendance.
