Burglary Suspects Nabbed With Gun, Weed: Police
1 suspect was released, while 2 others were charged with drug and weapons-related offenses after a victim declined to press charges.

SKOKIE, IL — Police said three suspects in a car shop break-in were arrested nearby soon afterward, but they were not charged with burglary because the owner of the building declined to press charges. Instead, two of them face unrelated charges based on contraband that they were found to be carrying while taken into custody, according to police.
Around 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 19, police got a report that someone had broken into the SA Autohaus, at 9242 McCormick Boulevard, and stolen keys from inside.
Within an hour, police had arrested three men at the nearby BP gas station at 3301 Dempster St. They were positively identified as the people who had been seen inside the shop and they were arrested at 3:35 p.m.

Although the victim declined to sign a complaint of burglary, two of the three suspects ended up with criminal charges from Skokie police. The third, a 29-year-old Skokie man, was released without charges, according to police.

Deandres McCanton, 31, of the 1800 block of Lyons Street, Evanston, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after he was allegedly found with a handgun.

Okine X. Dacres, 36, of the 2400 block of West Fargo Avenue, Chicago, was also arrested at 3:35 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the BP. He was charged with possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis and possession of a marijuana grinder following the burglary report.

Dacres is set to appear in court Jan. 8, while McCanton has a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 10.
