The Edge Theater

The Dramatic Improv Festival returns to Chicago, August 20-23 for four days celebrating the art of grounded, human, emotionally authentic improvisation.

Hosted by Theatre Momentum, the festival brings together improvisors, actors, and instructors from around the world for an exciting lineup of performances, workshops, and community events. Whether you're an experienced performer, a theatre artist looking to expand your craft, or simply a fan of compelling live performance, the Dramatic Improv Festival offers a unique opportunity to experience a different side of improv.

Festival performances showcase character-driven, story-focused improvisation that emphasizes authentic relationships, emotional honesty, and meaningful storytelling. During the day, participants can train with acclaimed instructors in workshops covering dramatic improvisation, acting, storytelling, and performance techniques. 

Since its founding in 2019, the Dramatic Improv Festival has welcomed performers and teachers from around the world, creating one of the world's premier gatherings for dramatic improvisation.

Starting July 9, 2026, Water Tower Place will play host to <a href="https://www.citymarketirl.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">City Market IRL</a>, a new evening market experience that blends local food, artisan vendors, live music and community gathering. 
Held weekly on Thursdays from 4-8 p.m. on Level 4 of the iconic Mag Mile shopping center, City Market IRL will feature live music and family-friendly community programming alongside more than 100 local vendors offering ready-to-eat dinner options, vintage and upcycled goods, and hand-crafted gifts. 
City Market IRL builds on the success of the annual Water Tower Place indoor winter market. Created in partnership with the <a href="https://www.southloopfarmersmarket.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">South Loop Farmers Market</a>, City Market IRL moves beyond the traditional market experience to curate an inviting “third space,” where visitors can connect, explore and experience the magic of summer in Chicago – together. 
“City Market IRL is about bringing people together through food, culture, creativity and shared experiences,” said Tina Feldstein, Co-Founder and Market Manager at the South Loop Farmers Market. “We’re creating a vibrant weekly gathering place where Chicagoans and visitors alike can spend an evening discovering local makers, enjoying great food and reconnecting with community.”

Veteran saxophonist Tim Warfield—renowned for his annual holiday appearances in Chicago—brings his artistry to the iconic Jazz Showcase ahead of schedule. As a featured artist for the club’s longstanding Charlie Parker Month tradition, Warfield delivers his signature soulful tone and commanding improvisational mastery.
A luminary of post-bop and straight-ahead jazz, Warfield has shared the stage with many giants such as Dizzy Gillespie, Isaac Hayes, Jimmy Smith, and Shirley Scott, as well as alongside contemporaries like Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, Nicholas Payton and Stefon Harris. His discography spans multiple Grammy-nominated projects as well as celebrated albums under his own name. Today, he shapes the next generation of artists as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Jazz Masters in Music program at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music, working under the leadership of Terell Stafford.

Saxophonist Tim Warfield: Appearing Aug 20th - 23rd, at the Jazz Showcase.

On National Chicken Wing Day, July 29 several representatives from the Aurora, O&rsquo;Hare, Downers Grove and Wells Street Hooters locations had the opportunity to present Girls in the Game with a donation of $2,000 at Moore Park in Chicago. 

This is the third season in a row the Chicagoland area Hooters restaurants teamed up with the Chicago Wolves for their &ldquo;Score For Charity&rdquo; program. As part of the partnership, the Chicagoland area Hooters locations selected the non-profit Girls in the Game. 

Each time Wolves players Charles Alexis Legault or Givani Smith scored a point during the 2025-26 American Hockey League season, Hooters donated toward this initiative. The teammates combined points, resulting in a $2,000 donation. The donation will support year-round sports, health and leadership programs for girls across Chicago.

 For Jamaya Jenkins the day of volunteering was extra special.

&ldquo;To be here as part of Hooters is a full circle moment. Participating in all the fun activities brought back some great memories from my childhood. Attending Girls in the Game as a child helped me develop into the person I am today and I am very thankful for the great mentorship and friendships that I've made from the program,&rdquo; said Jamaya Jenkins, a Wells Street Hooters Girl and Girls in the Game alum. 

HMC Hospitality Group employees who volunteered with and participated in this year&rsquo;s annual event and check presentation include Hooters Calendar Girls Jamaya Jenkins (Wells Street), Juliana Garcia (Aurora), Elliana Enriquez (Downers Grove), Alexis Daniels (O&rsquo;Hare), Lana Solak (O&rsquo;Hare), Emeli Rodriguez Lopez (O&rsquo;Hare) and Marketing Manager Stephanie Martinez. They were joined by representatives from the Chicago Wolves and Girls in the Game for the presentation and event which included various stations focused on physical and mental health activities. 

Hooters and Girls in the Game have been partners for the past few years, during which HMC employees have supported efforts at the organization&rsquo;s Sports and Leadership summer camp, a Day of Play, plus hosted teen participants at a Hooters location, teaching them about all of the career opportunities that exist within the company. 

&ldquo;This is the type of partnership that we value the most. It goes beyond the financial support and truly allows our participants to get to see the exceptional role models that the company sends to programming, making the impact somewhat beyond measure. It may look like 100 girls at a summer camp having fun, but I bet some of those lives may have been more deeply impacted by the interaction they got to have with the Hooters team. We are truly thankful that we continue to work together and cannot wait to do more together in the coming school year,&rdquo; said Dawn Kobel, Girls in the Game Director of Development and Communications. 
Girls in the Game uses a model that encourages girls to participate in non-competitive sports to learn valuable life skills such as confidence, teamwork, leadership and more. Gold Coast Sounds Good Choir

Chicagoland's largest no-audition choral program for adults "55 and better" has nine choirs throughout Chicago and the suburbs, including the Gold Coast. Conducted by Jonathan Miller, the choir rehearses and performs at the beautiful, historic Fourth Presbyterian Church on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, 126 E. Chestnut Ave. Three sessions a year are offered -- two 15-week sessions in the fall and spring, and one 8-week session in the summer). All sessions include: a weekly 90-minute rehearsal with an additional (optional) online Friday rehearsal; guidance and instruction by professional conductors and accompanists; licensed sheet music; accessible rehearsal and performance venues; and free, public performances by each choir. Registered singers are also free to rehearse and perform with as many of the nine choirs as they wish for just one registration fee per session. Scholarships are readily available -- call the Sounds Good office at 630.395.9542 to apply. Sounds Good Choir also offers the only choir in Illinois for adults with early-stage dementia and their care partners. The Good Memories program is specifically designed to provide a safe, welcoming community in which to sing, socialize, and have fun.
