A Journey to Freedom: An Evening of Memory, Resistance & Freedom
Event Details
Join us for a night of memory, resistance and freedom on Sunday, November 1, 2026, supporting A Journey to Freedom, a documentary by Chicago-based Albanian-American filmmaker Anisa Selenica.
The team behind A Journey to Freedom will host a fundraising event on Sunday, November 1, 2026, featuring an exclusive 30-minute film preview, a Q&A with the filmmakers, a raffle and cocktail hour. ABC7 Chicago’s Mark Rivera will emcee.
Directed and produced by Chicago-based Albanian-American filmmaker Anisa Selenica, the documentary traces her family’s history of resistance, persecution and survival under Enver Hoxha’s communist dictatorship. Through personal stories, archival material and interviews with survivors and historians, it explores the lasting effects of political oppression across generations.
Funds raised will support the documentary’s continued production and completion. Guests can meet the filmmaking team and learn how to help preserve these stories for future audiences.
