Chicago Area Could See Storms, Temps Near 90 This Weekend

The Chicago area should see the return of summer-like temperatures this weekend. High temps nearing 90 degrees are in the forecast Friday and Saturday, while temps could hit the mid-80s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Meanwhile, there is a chance for rain Sunday morning, and showers and thunderstorms could redevelop ahead of a cold front Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for the Chicago area. High temps between 78 and 87 degrees, with the coolest temps expected along Lake Michigan, are expected. Dry weather and high temps between 80 and 87 degrees are expected on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, highs between 79 and 85 degrees are in the forecast for the Chicago area.

Showers and storms Sunday afternoon could return Sunday night. In addition, there could be multiple rounds of showers and storms next week. Cooler temps are also expected to return next week.

• FRIDAY: Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s inland...but only around 80 near the lake. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows in the mid 60s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
• SATURDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
• SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 60s.
• MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 70s.
