Chicago Area Expected To Feel Effects Of Hurricane Irma This Week

A look at the weather forecast for the Chicago area for the week ahead.

CHICAGO, IL -- The Chicago area will feel the effects of Hurricane Irma this week. The week will start off sunny but clouds will spread northward later Tuesday from what will, at that time, be the remnants of Hurricane Irma, according to the National Weather Service. The after-effects from Irma could bring rain showers on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

On Monday, fall-like temperatures and plenty of sunshine are in the forecast on Monday. Temps are expected to start off chilly for the start of the week but afternoon temperature readings will be comfortable, according to the National Weather Service.

Temps near the lakeside will be in the 70s on Monday with highs between 73 and 76 degrees in the forecast across the Chicago area. Meanwhile, highs between 72 and 79 degrees are expected on Tuesday and highs between 72 and 77 degrees are in the forecast for Wednesday.

Toward the end of the week, partly cloudy skies are expected Thursday with highs between 73 and 78 degrees. On Friday, sunny skies and temps between 75 and 81 degrees are in the forecast.

  • SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows around 50 in the suburbs...but in the mid 50s downtown. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • MONDAY: Sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. Southeast winds around 5 mph in the morning becoming east in the afternoon.
  • MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s in the suburbs...but in the upper 50s downtown. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers after midnight. Lows around 60. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Highs in the lower 70s.
  • WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows around 60. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.
  • THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s.
  • THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 60s. Highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s.
