CHICAGO, IL — Whether you're missing a key ingredient for a holiday dinner, or you accidentally left someone off your present list, last-minute shopping is often inevitable over the holidays. Fortunately, some restaurants in Chicagoland are open on Christmas Eve, and if you forget to pick up a bottle of Champagne for New Year's Eve, you have some last-minute options.

These chain restaurants vary from fine dining to buffet to fast food, and many locations are open on Christmas Day, says Offers.com, although that can vary by location. Please note you are encouraged to call ahead and confirm the hours with specific locations.

• Bakers Square – Most locations are open Christmas Day.
• Benihana – Restaurants will be open on the 25th. Reservations strongly encouraged.
• Bob Evans – Open for Christmas Eve dining, but most locations are closed on Christmas Day.
• Boston Market – Select locations will be open and serving a traditional plated meal on Christmas. The Christmas Menu includes hand-carved ham with two sides, a dinner roll and a slice of apple pie for $12.99, in addition to other meal options (see full Christmas Day menu).
• Buca di Beppo – Open for lunch and dinner on Christmas Day, starting at 11 a.m. Regular menu will be served. Reservations strongly recommended.
• Buffalo Wild Wings – Most locations will be open on Christmas. Check with your local location for hours.
• Chuck E Cheese – Some locations will be open on Christmas day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Check your local franchise for its hours. Not all will be open.
• Denny's – Denny's promise to be open 24 hours, 365 days a year extends to Christmas. It will be serving up its regular menu on Christmas Day.
• IHOP – Most locations will be open on Christmas. Try one of IHOP's seasonal specials, like its snowman pancakes.
• McDonald's – Some locations will be open, but expect hours (and whether it's open at all) to vary by franchise.
• Macaroni Grill – Enjoy an Italian feast on Christmas. Reservations strongly encouraged.
• McCormick & Schmick's – Open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Make reservations here.
• Morton's The Steakhouse – Open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Morton's will be serving its standard menu. Reservations strongly encouraged.
• Old Country Buffet – Old Country Buffet will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It will Close on 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day.
• Panda Express – Some — but not all — Panda Express locations will be open on Christmas Day. This varies by restaurant, as many are independently owned. So call ahead.
• Starbucks – For those who need a caffeine fix on Christmas Day, Starbucks will be open. Check your location's hours.
• Waffle House – Waffle House is open 24 hours 365 a year, and that includes Christmas.

Most chain stores are closed on Christmas Day, but you have some options for New Year's Day:

CVS

On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, select CVS Pharmacy stores will be open and front store and pharmacy hours will vary by location. For a list of CVS Pharmacy locations in a given area, customers can go here. CVS pharmacies within Target stores will also be closed on Christmas Day.

Jewel-Osco

Stores close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed Christmas Day. All stores close at 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve and will be open on regular hours on New Year's Day.

Trader Joe's

Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Whole Foods

Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve. They will also open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Day.

Costco

Stores will be closed on New Year's Day and closed on Christmas.

Target

Stores will be closed on Christmas. On New Year's Eve, all stores open at regular time — either 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. — and will close at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. On New Year's Day, all stores open at regular time and will close at 10 p.m., 11 p.m. or midnight depending on location, so check with your store.

Sam's Club

Stores will be closed on New Year's Day and Christmas.

Walmart

Stores will be closed on Christmas and open on regular hours on New Year's Day.

Meijer

Stores will be closed on Christmas Day, and customers are encouraged to use the store locator for other holiday hours.

Mariano's

Stores will be closed on Christmas Day. Stores close at 9 p.m. New Year's Eve and will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year's Day.

ALDI

Stores will have limited hours on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; check the website for your location. Stores are closed on Christmas and New Year's Day.

Food 4 Less

Stores are open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. New Year's Eve and 8 a.m. to midnight on New Year's Day. Closed on Christmas Day.
