Chicago-Area Weather: Beautiful End To July; Storms Possible Mid-Week

A look at this week's weather forecast for the Chicago area.

The Chicago area will see a beautiful end to July with mostly sunny skies and temps in the 80s in the forecast. But by mid-week, rain and storms may return, according to the National Weather Service. The additional precipitation may lead to more flooding along the Fox River.

High temperatures between 77 and 84 degrees are in the forecast for Monday, with the coolest temps expected along Lake Michigan. On Tuesday, high temps will reach between 81 and 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. On Wednesday, scattered afternoon thunderstorms are possible with high temps between 80 and 85 degrees.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for northeast Illinois as flooding is expected to continue along portions of the Fox River. There is a limited thunderstorm risk issued for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and an elevated thunderstorm risk for Thursday.

A flood warning will remain in effect through Monday afternoon for the Fox River in Montgomery. As of Sunday morning, the river was at 13.1 feet in Montgomery and the flood stage is 13 feet. Minor flooding was occurring and minor flooding is in the forecast. The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by Monday morning.

A flood warning is expected to remain in effect through late Wednesday night for the Fox River at the Algonquin Tailwater. As of Sunday morning, the river was at 10.9 feet and flood stage was 9.5 feet. Moderate flooding is in the forecast.

  • Sunday Night: Clear. Lows in the lower 60s in the suburbs...but in the upper 60s downtown. East winds around 5 mph in the evening shifting to the west after midnight.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s inland...but only in the upper 70s near the lake. West winds around 5 mph in the morning becoming southwest in the afternoon.
  • Monday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 60s in the suburbs...but in the upper 60s downtown. South winds around 5 mph in the evening shifting to the west after midnight.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows in the mid 60s in the suburbs...but around 70 downtown. Southwest winds around 5 mph.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the mid 60s.
  • Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 60s.
  • Friday And Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 70s. Lows around 60.
