Chicago-Area Weather: Cooler Temps, Rain This Weekend

A cold front will move across the Chicago area this morning following a line of showers and thunderstorms that hit early Friday. Skies will become party sunny as the day goes on. And cooler and drier air will filter into the Chicago area by Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The weekend will see temps reach highs in the low- to mid-70s. There will be a slight chance of isolated showers, mainly in the afternoon, both on Saturday and Sunday.

But the cooler weather down won't last for long. A gradual warm-up will bring temps back into the 80s by the middle of next week with increasing humidity. There will also be a chance for storms later in the week.

Here is a detailed look at the weather forecast for the coming days:

• FRIDAY: Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms early this morning...otherwise partly sunny. Highs around 80. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
• SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 70s. West winds 10 to 20 mph.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows in the lower 50s in the suburbs...but in the upper 50s downtown. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
• SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of light showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light showers in the evening. Lows in the lower 50s in the suburbs... But in the upper 50s downtown.
• MONDAY: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers. Highs around 70.
