Chicago-Area Weather: Stormy Week Ahead

It's looking like a stormy week ahead for the Chicago area. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across the Chicago area Sunday evening and night, according to the National Weather Service. Severe weather is not expected but patchy fog is possible after midnight.

There is also a chance for thunderstorms on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service for Chicagoland. There won’t be "all-day rains" with the storms early in the week and will be dry hours. But most areas will see a few showers and storms at times.

Temperatures will generally be in the mid- to upper-70s for much of the Chicago area though temps could tip into the 80s by mid-week.

Here is a more detailed look at the weather forecast for the week ahead:

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy with showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
• Monday: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening, then a slight chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the lower 60s. East winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.
• Tuesday: Partly sunny with chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 70s inland...but only in the lower 70s near the lake. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 60s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs around 80 inland...but only in the mid 70s near the lake.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s.
• Thursday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s.
• Thursday Night Through Friday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s in the suburbs...but in the lower 60s downtown. Highs in the mid 70s.
