Chicago-Area Weather: Temps in 70s, 80s; Dangerous Swim Conditions at Lake Michigan Beaches

A look at the weather forecast for the coming week for the Chicago area.

Mostly sunny skies and temps ranging from the mid-60s to the lower-80s are in the forecast this week for the Chicago area. But for those hoping to check out a beach along Lake Michigan, you may want to wait until later in the week. Dangerous swim conditions are expected Monday morning through Tuesday evening, according to a beach hazards statement issued by the National Weather Service.

Forecasted wave heights of five to eight feet are expected along Lake Michigan in Lake and Cook counties on Monday afternoon. Strong rip currents could create powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from the shore, according to the National Weather Service. Those rip currents could sweep people into deeper water.

"Life-threatening waves and currents are expected at the beaches," according to the beach hazards statement. "People visiting the beaches should stay out of the water."
