Chicago FD Lieutenant Dies From Injuries Sustained In Blaze: FD

CHICAGO — A Chicago Fire Department lieutenant who was critically injured fighting a house fire near O’Hare International Airport earlier this month died on Tuesday, the department announced.

Kevin Ward, 59, died at Loyola Medical Center on Tuesday surrounded by his family, officials said. Ward joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1996.

Ward was injured while fighting a fire on Chicago’s Northwest Side in the 8300 block of West Balmoral Avenue on Aug. 11. Two other firefighters were injured in the blaze. Officials said Ward was in the basement of the home at the time.

A procession to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will take place about noon Tuesday, fire officials said

"On behalf of the City of Chicago, I offer my sincerest condolences on the passing of Chicago Fire Department Lieutenant Kevin Ward. I pray for the peace of his family, friends, and loved ones during this most difficult time,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement released on Tuesday.
