📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Chicago who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Chicago Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

📰 Top 5 stories in Chicago:

1) Chicago gets rating bump despite drag of pension costs, union workforce. Fitch Ratings upgraded Chicago's General Obligation Bonds from "BBB-" to "BBB" to reflect the city's "improving pension funding practices, it's commitment to maintaining a sound reserve position, and ability to institute structural budget measures that improve its capacity to respond to future cyclical challenges." The city's debt, however, carries more risk than other municipalities. According to the Fitch report, pension costs remain problematic and the city is unlikely to make progress on funding the promises it has made to city employees.

The Center Square

2) Chicago school board moves to take over Urban Prep, once-lauded charter serving Black boys. The Chicago Board of Education voted unanimously yesterday to revoke the Urban Prep Academy's charter and take over its Englewood and Bronzeville campuses. CPS plans to protect the school programming that has proven successful, and said the two campuses, which have a combined enrollment of about 370 students, will remain open under district management. CPS also plans to retain faculty and staff at the schools.

Block Club Chicago

3) Meet the 'Chicago Sings Karaoke' contest finalists prepping for championship round. The monthlong, citywide competition began earlier this month and attracted hundreds of amateur singers from around the city. Now, six finalists are vying for the title of "Chicago's Karaoke Champion." The final round will be held Nov. 6 at Park West. The judges' panel will feature local celebrities and industry professionals, and the winner will receive $5,000. For those unable to attend, the event will be livestreamed at Chicago.gov/live.

Chicago Sun-Times

4) Ice rink coming to Wrigley Field. Here's what you need to know about Gallagher Way's Winterland. Forget baseball. Chicagoans can soon head to Wrigley Field for ice skating. The rink has traditionally been located adjacent to the ballpark in Gallagher Way. This year, it will be moved inside the stadium in right field. Additional activities include ice bumper cars, carnival rides and games, ice tubing and a new dining option called "The Lodge." Winterland will run Nov. 18 through Jan. 8, 2023.

NBC Chicago

5) Luxury retailer offers fans a day with former Bulls champion Scottie Pippen for $333,000. Retailer Neiman Marcus is pitching the Los Angeles getaway as the ultimate sports experience. A lucky fan will get the opportunity this holiday season to spend the day with former Bulls star Scottie Pippen and his son, Scotty Pippen, Jr. The trip includes a basketball game, private dinner, whiskey tasting and a signed copy of Pippen's book, "Unguarded." But it will cost $333,333 and airfare is not included. If the price looks familiar, it's because Pippen, who played 17 seasons in the NBA, wore No. 33 with the Bulls. Pippen will donate $278,000 toward nonprofit CHI Prep Academy.
