Chicago Park District Opens 62 Warming Shelters

CHICAGO — The polar vortex is expected to bring the coldest temperatures of the year over the next few days and the Chicago Park District has opened 62 warming shelters across the city in preparation. By Tuesday night, temperatures are expected to plummet to 23 below zero.

High winds are also expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could make temperatures feel as low as negative 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

All warming centers will be open under normal Chicago Park District operating hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise specified. Operating hours for each park location can be found by visiting the district's website or calling the center.
