Chicago Pizza Is Better Than New York's: NYC Mayor's Spokesperson

Sorry, do you mind repeating that louder, Mr. Spokesman? We couldn't hear you all the way over here in deep-dish land.

CHICAGO, IL — A New York City spokesperson has said what Chicagoans have known all along: Chicago pizza is better than New York pizza. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio's press secretary Eric Phillips sent out a series of tweets over the weekend praising Chicago's Pequod's Pizza.

"This is the best pizza in the United States and it's not close," the press secretary tweeted Saturday. Phillips was in Chicago to watch the Packers play against the Bears, and tried out Pequod's while he was here.

“I’ve lived in NYC for 12+ years. The flat, foldable, salt-less pizza is fine. I eat a lot of it. But it’s not as good as Chicago pizza. It’s like Salisbury steak vs. actual steak. Sorry,” tweeted Phillips, who is originally from Wisconsin—a fact that New Yorkers didn't hesitate to hold against him.

The New York Post called him a "seemingly clueless Midwest native," and said the photo he took of Pequod's Pizza looked like "an amorphous pile of pepperoni and sauce."

Phillips defended his tweets, saying New Yorkers care about people not being phonies, and he was just being honest.
