Chicago Polar Plunge Registration Opens

CHICAGO — Registration is already open for the 2020 Chicago Polar Plunge, the 20th annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Chicago. Individuals and teams are gearing up for the big day, which is set for March 1 next year at North Avenue Beach.

The Polar Plunge benefits the 7,500 athletes of the Special Olympics Chicago program. It's the organization's largest yearly fundraising event and has drawn a number of celebrity participants like Jimmy Fallon and Vince Vaughn.

Those who register need to raise at least $200.

The first registered plunger to raise $2,020 will receive a pair of airline tickets courtesy of United Airlines, according to a Special Olympics news release.

Last year, the Polar Plunge raised $1.8 million. Organizers have set a goal to raise $2 million this year.
