Chicago Police Officers Required to Work in Pairs After Dallas Attack

Police in Chicago are on edge after five officers were killed Thursday night in Texas.

Chicago, IL — The effect of Thursday night’s terrorist act against members of the Dallas Police Department which killed five officers and injured at least six others has reached Chicago.

Police officers here have been instructed to work in pairs for an indefinite amount of time to "increase visibility and strengthen officer safety,” according to a Chicago Tribune report.

"This week's events are also an important reminder of our work with community partners to continue promoting positive engagement between officers and the residents we're sworn to protect," the department said in a statement.

An “all call” message to all Chicago police overnight urged them to exercise “extreme caution” as a result of the Dallas attack, which occurred during an anti-police protest following the police-initiated deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota.

Protests following the deaths of Sterling and Castile took place in Chicago Thursday night as well, but no major incidents of violence were reported.
