Chicago Radio Personality 'Mancow' Muller Sues New Boss

WLUP-FM 97.9's Erich "Mancow" Muller is suing a radio executive for emotional distress.

CHICAGO, IL — Radio personality Erich "Mancow" Muller of WLUP-FM 97.9 filed a lawsuit Monday in Cook County Circuit Court after his employer hired his former boss, radio executive Marv Nyren. Muller, of the "Mancow Morning Show," is suing Nyren for emotional distress. Muller claims Nyren fired him from WKQX in 2006, and discouraged competitors from hiring him.

The lawsuit claims that Muller has suffered emotionally and physically since his employer, Cumulus Media, hired Nyren as a market manager earlier this month. The suit said Muller had to seek help from a medical professional after the hire "traumatized" him and made him "physically ill."

According to the suit, Nyren fired Muller in 2006 after Muller stopped meeting with Nyren outside of work. Muller said he was "uncomfortable with the suggestive settings" and Nyren's "mannerisms" during their meetings, the suit claims.

Nyren has declined to comment on the lawsuit, but told the Chicago Tribune he was "thrilled" to be working with Muller.

"He's seeing some really great ratings, and I'm looking forward to working with him," Nyren told the Tribune.

The lawsuit says WKQX held a staff party celebrating Muller's departure in 2006, and claims the staff hosted an on-air show that depicted Muller as a "dead cow."

Muller's attorney said he's hoping to stay on with WLUP. According to the Chicago Tribune, Muller has filed several workplace-related lawsuits over his career, including a libel lawsuit against Nyren and Emmis Communications in 2007 that was dismissed in 2011 with stipulations.
