Chicago Ranks High Among 'Most Fun Cities' In America

As if we needed any affirmation, a new study has concluded that Chicago is one of the most fun cities in the U.S.

CHICAGO, IL — A new study by U.S. Personal finance website WalletHub concluded Chicago is their kind of town when it comes to fun. WalletHub ranked the Windy City sixth out of 180 American cities for its level of fun, and the company isn't wrong.

The findings for WalletHub's 2018's Most Fun Cities in America were based on 65 factors, including the percentage of fitness clubs, bars and dance clubs per person. WalletHub said it also compared 182 cities, including the country's 150 most populated cities, and at least two of the most populated cities in each state, when it came to entertainment and recreation, nightlight and parties and costs.

Chicago scored a total of 51.38 and ranked 7th for recreation and entertainment, 9th for nightlife and parties, and 147th for costs.

"Everyone likes to have fun. But we all prefer our personal brand of a good time. Some people like trying new restaurants, traveling, going to bars and clubs or playing outdoor sports," WalletHub penned. "Others enjoy riding roller coasters, going to the movies, or playing video games. But having fun can be expensive – the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average American spends nearly $3,000 on entertainment per year."

So which cities are having more fun than Chicago? Las Vegas, Orlando, New York, Atlanta and Miami are having more fun, according to WalletHub.

The least fun cities in the U.S. include Pearl City, Hawaii; Oxnard, California; Bridgeport, Connecticut; Santa Rosa, California and Fontana, California.
