Chicago Teachers Union President Recovering After Stroke: Reports

According to multiple reports, CTU President Karen Lewis has suffered a stroke.

CHICAGO, IL -- Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke last week, according to several reports. According to NBC 5, the stroke happened in the same part of her brain where cancer was found in 2014. Lewis reportedly couldn't move her left leg or left hand after the stroke.

Lewis said she's had no problems with speech, however, and plans to regain movement on her left side through physical therapy.

Lewis was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. She underwent surgery after her cancer diagnosis three years ago, derailing her plans to run for mayor.
