Coziest Coffee Shops in Chicago

Rick Simon of Chicago on the Coziest Coffee Shops in Chicago

Whether you live in Chicago or are just visiting, knowing where to find an excellent cup of coffee is often a priority. And all the better if that superb cup of coffee can be found in a warm and inviting coffee shop or cafe. For those who not only seek out coffee but are looking for the coziest coffee shops around, look no further. Here are a few of the coziest coffee shops in Chicago.

Heritage Outpost
Heritage Outpost has several locations throughout the city, but the uptown shop at 1325 W. Wilson Ave is, by far, the coziest. You can enjoy your favorite coffee or tea in comfort here. The shop offers friendly baristas, minimalist design, and lounge resplendent with plenty of sunlight.

Hero Coffee Bar
This gem, tucked away off of Jackson Avenue, is on a mission "to positively impact our communities one meaningful cup at a time." Hero Coffee Bar has a strong sense of hometown pride and works with several local charities working to serve the community. The shop serves up breakfast and lunch, along with excellent coffee. Check out their new bourbon barrel-aged coffee if you go!

C.C. Ferns
With adorable rustic cabin decor and homey vibe, this cozy coffee shop is perfect for your morning pick-me-up. Located at 2806 W. Augusta Blvd., in Humboldt Park, this shop is ideal for lounging away on a laid back weekend morning. C.C. Ferns' menu is as delightful as the ambiance offering macchiatos, iced coffee, lattes, boozy steamers, Doughnut Vault doughnuts, and house-made croissants.

Colectivo Coffee
There are several Colectivo Coffee locations throughout Chicago and in Wisconsin as well. The cafe at 2530 North Clark Street has a varied menu that goes well beyond coffee and includes burritos, sandwiches, wraps, scones, muffins, bagels, and croissants. Another unique feature of Colectivo is the outdoor patio area where, in the winter months, you can curl up near a fire pit to keep warm. The patio is partially enclosed so you can enjoy your coffee and still watch the snowflakes fall.

The Wormhole
If you're looking for a nerdy blast from the past, check out The Wormhole - decor a la the 1980s. For those who grew up in the 80s, this coffee shop located at 1462 Milwaukee Avenue is super nostalgic. Movie posters and paraphernalia from classic 80s films like Back to the Future, Gremlins, Beetlejuice, and Star Wars, etc. line the walls. There are plenty of comfy couches with outlets nearby. During the week there's usually room to spread out - however, on the weekends it can get a bit crowded so get here early if you want a table.
