Disturbing Video Of Man Being Pushed Onto CTA Tracks Released By CPD

Chicago police are seeking to identify a suspect who was captured on video shoving a commuter off the platform at the Damen Blue Line stop.

CHICAGO — Chicago police released disturbing surveillance video of a man being shoved off a CTA platform on the near West Side on to the tracks after a weekend of violence on the Red and Blue lines.

The video shows the suspect crossing paths with the man, then pushing him off the platform at the CTA Blue Line stop in the 400 block of South Damen Avenue around 7 a.m. Friday. The 26-year-old man who was shoved was treated and released at a nearby hospital.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect, or has information about the battery, is asked to call CPD Det. Meck in Area 3, at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can be submitted to cpdtip.com. In more weekend CTA violence, a shooting on a northbound Red Line train left a man dead. The man was shot inside a train car around 2 a.m. Saturday.

CTA announced over the weekend they have added 250 unarmed guards to patrol CTA trains and will bring back K-9 units. The added security is meant to supplement Chicago police.

In a weekend news conference with CPD Superintendent David Brown, CTA President Dorval Carter assured commuters that the mass transit system was doing everything it could to stem the acts of escalating violence on the CTA.

Brown announced that addition Chicago police officers will be assigned to the CTA transit system.

"It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Brown said. "No resident should think twice about their safety on any part of the CTA or in our neighborhoods."

According to news reports, violent crime on the CTA is at its highest point since 2015, with 375 violent crimes reported on CTA properties this year.
